Colourful façades with expanded metal mesh

Colour is language, emotion, astonishment: with expanded metal, it is possible to go beyond the 'available colours' and impart a distinctive and characterising force to every project.

Expanded mesh camouflages the façade

Chromatic facade camouflage

The use of expanded metal mesh for façade cladding is an increasingly common choice among contractors and professionals. The reason for this success stems from the high expressive and communicative potential of this type of material. Speaking of the purely aesthetic aspect of a project, expanded metal mesh guarantees an expansion of the available colour range. This is a very important factor, as the choice of colour is one of the most delicate aspects of the realisation of a project: the colour chosen for the façade will communicate a series of different emotions, thus building its character. Choosing iridescent and iridescent colours, for example, will ensure originality and convey a sense of creativity. Classic, neutral colours, on the contrary, will communicate professionalism and rigour.

Let us take the stretched mesh façade visible in the office building of the Bois de Bay ecological station as an example: one can speak of chromatic mimicry, as the use of colour in a tone upon tone technique is able to soften the visual impact caused by a very large envelope. As we will explain in more detail in the next section, the stretched mesh also acts as a filter and screen against external agents: it is the size and type of mesh chosen that will determine its degree of visual permeability.

Protective colour for the casing

Expanded metal as a protective shield

The decision to use colour on building façades stems from the desire to safeguard the work carried out: the layer of colour will in fact guarantee the façade greater durability, as it will be covered by a sort of protective shield, a filter that will guarantee the cladding a longer life.

The application of expanded metal mesh panels guarantees protection against the action of harsh environments and atmospheres. In the event that the sheet metal panel is placed to clad a ventilated façade, it will also increase thermo-hygrometric comfort inside the rooms. For this reason, the choice of the type of finish to be adopted must be studied in detail. There is in fact a big difference between outdoor and indoor environments, both in terms of exposure to corrosive agents and in terms of liveability: the façade cladding must be weighed with these aspects in mind.

In fact, it is not uncommon that, due to the corrosiveness of the environment, it is necessary to carry out specific treatments designed to reduce the harmfulness of the elements contained in the air, such as the marine cycle. This particular painting process consists of applying several coats of different paints (epoxy and polyurethane) on previously dusted areas: these different layers of paint will create a thickness capable of further shielding the façade in question.

Attractive design and modernity with 3D metal mesh

The use of expanded metal mesh in the completion of a project is recommended to all those who are looking for something innovative, able to amaze thanks to its modernity and captivating design. The three-dimensional conformations of the meshes in expanded metal mesh create reflections, transparencies, and spaces in which light filters through, giving the room a truly unique and elegant atmosphere. The reflected light, in particular, succeeds in enhancing the weave of the expanded metal mesh as it meets the background of the material.
